A great job ad does not need clever copy. It needs to be clear, honest and written for the person you want to hire.
Use a clear, searchable title
Candidates search for familiar titles. "Senior Accountant" will outperform an internal title like "Finance Partner II".
Show the salary range
Ads with a salary range attract more relevant applicants and save time for everyone. If you cannot share it publicly, be ready to discuss it at the first conversation.
Keep must-haves short
List the three to five things a candidate genuinely needs on day one. Long wish lists discourage strong candidates who meet most, but not all, of the criteria.
Sell the role, not just the company
- What the person will actually do in their first six months
- Who they will work with
- Flexibility, rosters and location
- Development and career opportunities
Make applying easy
A short application process, a named contact and a clear timeline for next steps all improve your applicant pool.
